So we're making a Western...

I can't believe it's been over a year since I posted a blog here. A lot has happened, too... I guess now that people will be coming back to the site, I ought to start updating it more often, sweeping out the cobwebs and chasing down whatever arthropods may have taken up residence in my absence. But for now, I'll just put up the casting call for 505 Films next feature-length production!

Casting call: "The Righteous and the Wicked"

"The Righteous and the Wicked" is a low-budget, feature-length Western filming in northern New Mexico this July.

The story mixes classic Western elements with the structure of a heist film. Hoss Williams, an aging cattle rustler and gunman, is planning one final caper that will earn him enough money to retire. He puts together a team of five other men with a plot to swipe the entire payroll of a company town. Everything seems to be going as planned - until betrayal and greed begin to tear the group apart. As they struggle against mutual distrust, a ghost from Hoss' past returns to bury him - and anyone who stands in the way.

Open Audtions will be held

Saturday, May 2 from 12 noon to 4 pm at:

Jensen Entertainment Studio
500 2nd St SW
Albuquerque, NM 87102
(Corner of 2nd and Coal. Click here for map.)

We are casting 7 roles, all male. If you're planning to attend, please e-mail us in advance to reserve a specific time. Priority will be given to those with an appointment. Attach a headshot and resume with your e-mail if available.

email: auditions@505films.com

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script with the Writer/Director, Producer, and Casting Associates, and will be videotaped.

This is a NON-paying production. Some filming locations are in distant and rural areas of New Mexico; overnight accommodations will be provided when necessary but may be primitive. The production can only provide travel from Albuquerque to the locations and back; no travel budget exists for travel to Albuquerque from other areas of the state or country.

We will initially be looking for the following types:

HOSS WILLIAMS (Male, early 40s - mid 50s) A washed-up old bandit who used to ride with a ruthless gang, Hoss is now the only one left and starting to feel his age. He puts together a new crew to pull off a daring robbery, hoping to use his share to retire and give up his life of crime.

LIONEL GAGE (Male, late 20s - late 30s) An unprincipled scoundrel who will take any job that comes his way - legal or otherwise. He claims he's only in it for the money, but when he sees the chance to eliminate a rival, his cold-blooded betrayal of the group puts the entire plan in jeopardy.

JOE VARGAS (Male, Hispanic, late 30s - early 50s) An honest man and an old friend of Hoss', Vargas joins the heist to help support his sister and her illegitimate child. He believes Gage is the child's father and holds a grudge over Gage's treatment of his sister.

LEONARD CROSS (Male, late 20s - late 30s) An intimidating but non-violent fellow, also a personal friend of Hoss, his forthright manner and personal morals make him the perfect man to infiltrate the Sherriff's office. But when things go wrong, he's forced to decide where his loyalties truly lie.

HERMANN WENKEL (Male, late 20s - mid 30s) The son of German immigrants and an expert on locks and safes, Wenkel is brought in from back East to open the company's payroll safe. An outsider with no sympathies for the rest of the gang, he's only in this to get his money and get back to civilization as fast as he possibly can.

PETE MASON (Male, early to mid 20s) An ambitious and fresh-faced young man, Pete thought he was signing up for a life of adventure when he joined the company's security force. After anguishing in a boring job in a backwater town for months, he's fed up and ready to move on. He spots the flaw in the company's security and joins the gang as the inside man.

MARION (Male, late 20s - late 30s) A mysterious lone gunman who's hunting down all the members of Hoss' old gang and killing them. He's a man of few words who prefers to speak with his pistol, and who believes that everyone - even the wicked - deserve a proper burial.

Thanks for reading! Please feel free to forward along!

Recent Developments

So, I've been pretty negligent about updating this blog. Truth be told, there hasn't been much news to report lately. This past weekend, though, we filmed the first scene for the long-awaited Duke City Nights Chapter 2, starring Steve Pinzone and Alisia Downing! Check out some stills from the filming here:

I've had to make yet another modification to the forums to attempt to stave off the interminable hordes of spambot registrants. I added a mod called Textual Confirmation that requires people attempting to register to type in (and spell correctly) the answer to a question. Honestly, I'm not sure how the bots get past the gestalt-scrambled numbers and letters thing, but they do. I've had about 10-20 spambots registering every day lately. Just now I went to clear out all the fake accounts, and in the weeks since I last did so there were 250 or so that had registered. Fortunately, I implemented a thing that prevented them from posting until I approved their accounts; now that I have this textual confirmation thing, I've reset it to the normal e-mail confirmation process; hopefully this will keep the spam-bots out while allowing you, the real people, to still get in.

Finally, Necroville is starting a weeklong run this weekend:

End of an Era

Yes, I've finally replaced my controversial voicemail message with one far more banal and unremarkable. As fun as it was, I ultimately decided that professional considerations must prevail. Also, it was just time. It was no longer fresh or original, and it certainly did nothing to stem the onslaught of unwanted calls I'm subjected to on a daily basis. Anyway, if you're interested in hearing it again for old times' sake (or whatever) it has been preserved for posterity here.
